Today has been the craziest day and I am positively beat. But, I have yet to go to sleep withough posting a sneak peek of the day's session and today will be no exception. Since last year's bluebonnet field has become a parking lot, I've been desperate to find a replacement. I passed this place on my way to take the kids to school this morning. This little cutie's mom was SUCH a trooper! I told her the flowers are perfect, the weather is perfect, the timing is perfect...can we make it happen today???

And, just like that, she has packed up little miss M (note: her name is not "bonnie") and next thing you know, we're venturing around in this field of wildflowers. All it took was a little Pirate's Booty and miss M was willing to stay in one spot just long enough for me to snap a few pics.

Keep in mind, this may be part one of our time with miss M, so stay tuned for more pics in the future. Thanks, E! It was GREAT to meet you and drive around with you today!

Just wanted to let everyone know a few little tidbits:

1. March is, of course, closed for bookings, but I have 2 spaces left for sessions in April. And, I've also opened up May, so let me know if you want to set up a session in the next few months.

2. There is a Cupcake Academy scheduled for NEXT Sunday, March 30th. Originally, this was only going to be for individuals who have not had a Pinkle Toes session, but we've got a few spaces left, so I thought I'd go ahead and open those up for any past clients as well.

3. This is just another adorable pic I had to share from my "little dolls" session last week.

There are times when the magic of Austin, Texas just hits you and fills your sails. Like tonight. Here is this beautiful couple, SxSW has taken over downtown, great music and the smell of Mexican food fill the air, it's warm with a wonderful breeze, a brand new life is just peeking around the corner, the sunset casts a soft glow over the city...and you think, "Wow. It's great to be alive in Austin, Texas, tonight."

I said I wanted her to look urban chic. She nailed it.

You would not believe what surrounded us in the ally. (Okay, so not all of Austin is perfect. )

These two are so very much in love. Sigh.

We had the first ever Pinkle Toes Cupcake Academy today and let me tell you, we had a blast! What a great group of people and it was so impressive how quickly everyone picked up those sweet photography tricks. Thank you all so much for being the cupcake guinea pigs, your patience, your laughter, your questions, and your willingness to learn.

If you missed this one, details on the next Cupcake Academy are HERE. Two things: 1) I'm probably going to make it longer, but I have to confirm with Baby Coco first and 2) this particular workshop will be only open to people who have not had a Pinkle Toes photo session.

I don't know what I was thinking. Got this brilliant idea on Sun. that I should reorganize my office (my poor husband). After an all-day camp out at IKEA (ugh!!) and turning my entire house upside down, I *finally* have my computer set back up (hence the reason why I've been a bit MIA these past few days). Still missing half of my desk (grrrrr...IKEA). It will be nice to be settled in again and perhaps I will learn that little Sunday projects are never little.

Exciting, huh?

Thank you SO much to my sweet friend, Jen, for getting me a little slice of Austin Design Guide. Such a cool magazine filled with decorating inspiration. Man, it looks so cool to see Pinkle Toes in there all shiny and purdy.

Well, it's finally happened. All of my life, I've wanted to collect something. I don't know...I always wanted to be known for something cool that I collected (I'm a wierdo sometimes). And lookie now...who would have thought that a prop that I started using in my work would turn into A COLLECTION????!!! Thank you so much to all of my pals that have sent various cupcake paraphenalia my way!!!!!!!!! It thrills me to no end and I can't wait to set up a really cool display with all of my cupcakes.

These candles are from a sweetheart mommy who has just been the most wonderful client and friend. Her daughter is featured in my sample coffee table book. Thanks for thinking of me, M!!!!

All I can say is wow. Just wow. Isn't she stunning? You may or may not recognize her, but I've been fortunate enough to be part of some very important events in this family's life. They married out of state, though, so I finally got my chance to do some bridals after-the-fact. Soooooo thrilled to have had this opportunity.

Me and the kiddos got our geek on at a spur-of-the-moment trip to the iMax 3-D. There's nothing like watching your children squeel with delight as a dolphin jumps over their head or see them reach out to "pet" a giant whale. Of course, they lasted all of 30 min. into the movie. (Snuck in some pics with my camera phone -- too cute to pass up.)

At last! My new coffee table book sample has arrived! I was in such a hurry to show you, I took these pictures tonight...and let me add this disclaimer: the pictures do not do this justice. I am beyond thrilled with how this book feels in my hands...the glossy jacket, the rich feel of the satin-finish pages, the ultra cool case it comes in. Wow! Wait until you see this in person. And the 5x5 mini softcover copies are just as adorable!

And guess what else Mr. UPS brought me today?

My 7x7 Belly2Baby flip-book sample. Oh, this is just the coolest thing. I so wish I had maternity/newborn images of my own so I could make one for myself! The book starts out with the Belly pics and halfway through, you flip it over to reveal the Baby side. So novel and fun!

I'm so very excited about this new line! Now, when you order wall portraits (8x8 and up) of the images on your CD, they will come mounted on styrene (to protect the print from folding, bending, sagging, etc.) with a delicate linen texture and a STUNNING metallic finish. It's subtle so as not to draw attention from the image, but adds just enough depth to make the image oh-so-touchable. I now have several of these prints hanging in my home and I LOVE them! They are absolutely gorgeous!

In other news, I've now opened the calendar for booking through April '08 and due to a very good change in my schedule, I have been able to lower the prices just a touch on some of the CD collections. Goodness, I must be lonely tonight. Posting like crazy! Today, we had an impromptu visit to The Ranch and on the way home, noticing the BEAUTIFUL light of sunset, I just had to pull over at the coolest little location and snap a few pics.

I often get asked if I do weddings. The short answer is no, but I do quite enjoy sessions with couples in love--and it's kind of nice to work with subjects over the age of 2 ;-) once in a while.

So, in honor of Valentine's Day that is quickly approaching, I am offering a limited-time engagement/bridal package. If you are looking for engagement and/or bridal portraits, here's the scoop:

1. Contact me by Feb. 14th to schedule your engagement and/or bridal session(s).
2. I will waive all creative fees for those sessions! Instead, you will only need to pay the $100 pre-paid credit (per session). The credit is non-refundable, but it is good toward the purchase of your images on CD and will secure your date(s) and lock in prices.
3. We can schedule your session(s) for any time in 2008, but to receive this offer you must contact me by Feb. 14th and send in payments by Feb. 21st.
4. Sessions will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and these spaces will fill quickly.
5. This is for engagement and bridal sessions only.

Sigh. He turned 4 this weekend. Which means, he's one year away from going off to school and that I've only been doing this mom thing for 4 years. It's heartbreaking and exciting all at the same time. Gosh, I look back at pictures over the years and can't even imagine that this is still my little boy. Even when he's giving me his "OKAY, mooooooom. I'm smiling, now take the picture," uber fake smile, he's still cute as all get out.

Oh, and you'll be happy to know he got his beloved manure spreader from his Grandma. The world is right once again.

And I had to take a shot of this beautiful stack of pancakes hubby made for breakfast this morning. I so wish he would open up his own little cafe. Yummy stuff.

And I finally got around to hanging up these stacks of 8x10's I've had laying around the house for about a year now. I really love how these collages turned out. Thought I'd share.

So many things to talk about at once! The new http://www.pinkletoes.com/ is now live, so be sure to check it out! This also means that I am now accepting sessions through March '08, so if you've been waiting for the notice, here it is. And..the first three clients who book will receive a complimentary set of "petits fours" with their image order (a $100 value). What are "petits fours" you ask? Here's a taste:

Petits Fours are a set of three 5x5 and/or 5x7 images printed on metallic, textured paper, mounted on foamboard nested in individual coordinating easels. They are adorable and perfect for desktops, shelves, or gift-giving.

I'd also like to announce some important changes for 2008:

1. Instead of selling individual prints, I will now only be offering high-res. digital negatives on CD, giving you the freedom to print whatever you want in whatever sizes you want. No more having to decide on the spot between a 5x7 or an 8x10...now you can have it all! You will still be able to order products (canvases, books, enlargements, etc.) after you choose your images for CD. The pricing structure has changed because of this so please be sure to review that information on the site as well.

2. Proofing will now be done via online galleries. As much as I love visiting with everyone during in-person proofing sessions (and I am going to miss that), unfortunately, my schedule isn't going to allow for it right now. But this also means you will be able to view and receive your images much faster!

3. Proofs will be done a bit differently this year as well. The images that you see in your online gallery will go through basic processing to adjust color, contrast, etc., but I'm going to reserve fine retouching (fixing blemishes, enhancing detail, texturizing, etc.) for the images you decide to purchase. The proofs in your gallery will still look great, but the images you select will be perfect!

4. Coffee table books have taken a HUGE step up. This year, they will have double the pages (40-sides), pages will be thicker with a satin varnish coating, and will feature a matching printed dust jacket. Images of the new style will be up soon in the "confections" gallery on the website.

5. Maternity sessions can be booked separately, but you will receive a complimentary 1-hr maternity session when you book your newborn session. Maternity images are sold separately (no minimum), but you can have them all by purchasing the Decadence collection for your newborn or the Baby's First Year package.

6. I will only be opening the calendar for booking a few months at a time to help spread out sessions a little better. However, if you are expecting or are interested in birth photography, I ask that you please contact me as soon as possible so we can determine our options.

7. And finally, I'm now offering "A Day in the Life of..." sessions. Please visit the gallery and "special sessions" section on the website for all the details.

Whew. That was a lot.

My goal this year is to give you higher quality products and images in a shorter amount of time, so here's hoping these changes help us get there. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. ... the H family. This is something a bit different for Pinkle Toes--an all-day lifestyle session, or "A Day in the Life of..."--capturing the lives of typical families, doing their typical family thing. I think it's beautiful.

I've known this particular family for almost a year now (they're all over my galleries on my website ;-)) and I couldn't think of a better way to spend the day than hanging out with them. I can't believe how many wonderful pictures I now have to wade through, but thought I'd share a few of my immediate favs.

I will have more information about scheduling this kind of session when I launch my new website, which will hopefully be before we take our Christmas tree down. That gives me at least a few months, right? ;-)

He's only 3 (almost 4), but has been taking pictures for nearly half his life. "T" is best known for his outstanding use of motion blur,

but has wowed critics with his other works as well. His diverse portfolio includes captivating macros...

....emotional portraits that peer into the very souls of his subjects...

...the thought-provoking use of sun flare...

...and breathtaking landscapes...

I had the pleasure of sitting down with "T" earlier this morning. When asked how he would describe his incredible work, he replied, "Hmmmm, I can't tell," and without another word, strode off to continue his other passion: dumping out all of the toys in his toy bin.

I am deeply moved and truly inspired.

I had my very first "commercial" shoot (so-to-speak) for a beautiful baby boutique today: http://www.babycoco.com/. This place is a wonderland for parents and parents-to-be...meticulously decorated and filled with the most amazing cribs you will ever see. Sigh...

Of course, the day was filled with a focus on inanimate objects, but I know my wonderful volunteer models would much rather see sneak peeks of their performances, so here you go guys. Thanks again for being so patient and willing!

Can I open my eyes now? What a whirlwind Christmas! Bear with me...this post will be a hodge podge of many things, because frankly, my mind and our home is in a hodge podge stage right now (how long does it take to recover from Christmas?). I hope you all had a great one and I'd love to hear from you! What did you get? What was your favorite memory from this holiday? For me, there are so many to choose from. The first image is of "Santa Tracks"...what he left behind of the carefully laid out cookies and milk. Funny thing is, the kids never noticed Santa had eaten the cookies until I dutifully pointed it out to them.

This is a sampling of a few of the holiday cards I designed for my wonderful clients this year. Thought you'd appreciate the collection at a glance. So many bright, beautiful families!

For the first time in a while, we didn't have to go anywhere...all of the family came to us. I was quite proud of the dinner table setting (especially since I had nothing to do with the actual cooking of the holiday meal). While it was great to get to stay home, I am convinced it is MUCH more exhausting to host than to be hosted.

The boys' gift from Santa. The look on their faces was priceless. My gosh, they love this thing!

And now....for the best Christmas present ever! Remember our house was getting a face-lift? Oh, it needed so much carpentry work on the outside and I couldn't even fathom trying to paint it ourselves again. The above is the before...

Wanted to pop by real quick to wish you all the happiest of holidays! Not a day goes by where I don't pinch myself, wondering if this is for real. I'm so thankful to have met so many beautiful families and talented people. I hope you all enjoy this time and relax and snuggle up with those little ones and celebrate the lives you have created on this earth. We are all very blessed.

The above image is of the sweetest surprise from my sweet little mommy. We saw a special on this lady on the Food Network this summer and were just fascinated with the beauty and skill in her little business. The presentation alone makes my mouth water. Oh, they are the most beautiful chocolates ever!

And now, making cookies for Santa. My little sis, bless her, was bound and determined to make cookies with the boys this year. Little did she know how exhausting it can be to wrangle a two and four-year-old in the kitchen. But they had fun (and I'll bet she's thanking her lucky stars she bought the premade cookie dough.) Betty Crocker has left the building...

I had a wonderful time seeing everyone again today at Christmas and Coffee! Definitely going to have to make that a tradition. Even if it is 80 degrees outside, there's something about the cozy smell of coffee and polka dotted paper packages tied up with string and getting to chat with some amazing people that can put you in the holiday spirit no matter what. (Even if the manager wanted to kick me out for taking photographs in the store ;-)---I couldn't help it. Look how beautiful that cup is!!)

Loved it so much that we're going to do it again next week! I'll be sending out e-mails to everyone this applies to soon, but mark your calendar to come have coffee with me next Wed.

Newborns. Sigh. This is my "rock star" family. On a whim, I stopped by the store on my way to the session and picked up these ornaments. So very glad I did. And so very glad he let me get this shot. (By the way, can you see me in the picture?) Such a sweetie. He put up with a lot today! Side note: the ornaments are plastic NOT glass.

It's been so long and I've been knee-deep in proofs, orders, Christmas decorations, turkey, and broken heater parts (don't even ask), I just had to take a breather and put up a post here.

For starters: purchasing Guitar Hero 3--BIG mistake! Have you ever played this game? Oh, dear. It is insanely addictive and fun! My kids love it, too. T-man (below) is actually quite good at pushing the right color notes at the right time. I think we played this for 4-days straight over the holiday break.

(The droopy diaper is his uniform ;-)).

So much for a cute pic of the two of them together.

Look close and you can see a real, live, snot stream. Lovely.

The kids LOVED the train around our tree.

Big kids love it, too.

And finally, I was fortunate enough to have my intern, Katie, do family portraits for our holiday cards this year. She was great! I think moms can relate to this: wow, it means the world to actually BE IN a picture with your kids. We had a fun time and I'm just so happy to have these. (No more sneak peeks 'til Christmas, though ;-)).

It was fun to be on the other side of the camera. A bit nerve wracking, but interesting to see what I typically put my clients through. "Sure. I'll lay down in a field filled with cactus in my new red dress!"

I've gotten several e-mails from my beloved blog stalkers wanting to know where the heck I am, so I thought I'd drop a quick line to you. I just got back from a 3-day photography workshop in Dallas which was wonderful! But the timing...not so good. While, I've finished all of my holiday sessions, now the daunting task of proofing and designing and filling orders for everyone still awaits.

Unfortunately, ALL of us are now sick, which is a double blow (pun not intended). So if you want to know where I am, I'm glued to my computer with a box of tissues nearby and a bottle of NyQuil balanced precariously by the keyboard. I probably won't come out of my hole for about 2 weeks.

So, in the mean time, have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving, hold your family and friends close to you, and hang in there while I work to give you the amazing holiday images you've been anxiously looking forward to.

A mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do. Thought you'd get a kick of seeing how we got the wreath shot below. Mom was a champ and actually nursed her on the table in that uncomfortable position for quite sometime before we were able to take the pictures. Pretty crazy. Mom said she now has the song "Nursing on a Coffee Table" running through her head to the tune of "Love in an Elevator." Fitting. ;-)

What an amazing session today! Her mommy and daddy have had her for just four days now. The above was the first official set up and you wouldn't believe what we had to do to get this shot (mom, I have the picture of you that will go down in history ;-)). And this is the *only* shot she'd let us have like this--thank goodness we got it. But, once she was back in mommy's arms, she was perfectly perfect.

Okay, I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I am not very good at those adorable "baby draped over daddy's arms" poses. But, I'm going to work on it. I promise. Meanwhile, I thought you'd get a kick out of what happens when I try to do it. Dad sure was a champ and I'm glad he stuck it out. That second image really grabbed me.

By the way, did you realize that today is NOVEMBER 1st???!!!! Yes, it's true. If you have pending orders, it's extremely important to get those in ASAP so we can do our best to get everything in on time. On that note, if you wanted a coffee table book, but haven't placed an order for it yet, it doesn't look like they will be in on time for the holidays. (If you already ordered yours, you're fine ;-)). My deepest apologies if you had your heart set on one in December. But, no matter when your book arrives, know that it will still be stunning.Finally, I have to share this cool wall design this family and I created. {D: Your prints came in today, by the way, and this is going to look awesome!} Don't let those prints or CD's just sit around a collect dust...get creative! Of course, I should take a page from my own book. You wouldn't believe it, but my walls are pretty bare.

Yes, my eldest, the construction lover, wanted to be a pirate (???) and my youngest was a firetruck. Not a fireman, he insisted, but clearly a fireTRUCK. I so wish I had my video camera with us as we went trick-or-treating tonight. I'll do my best to accurately impersonate.

Me and Hubby: "Okay, guys. When you go up to the house, you ring the door bell--ONCE--and when they answer, you say, 'Trick or treat.' After they give you candy, be sure to say thank you and come back to us."

The Boys: "Okay."

They approach the house with caution, my youngest constantly tripping over the candy bag that is as tall as he is. Then comes the assualt on the doorbell. They attack it with such vigor I swear you could have heard it from a mile away. So much for ringing the bell ONCE.

Nice old lady answers. Then my ever-so-tactful three year old barges into the house and says, "So, what kinda candy YOU got?"

[Run, Michele. Run.]

Nice old lady isn't shaken. "Oh, well, let's see, I've got these purple LifeSavers..."

"Yeah, well that's not my favorite color, though. How about green?"

[I'm clearly going to hell for being such an inept mother.]

Nice old lady is wondering who this kid is, but manages to find some green candy. Once the candy is safely stashed in their bags, my kids suddenly remember their manners and thus begins the barage of "Happy Haooooooweeeeeen!" and "Bye, see ya!" and "Trick or Treat!" (?????) and "Thank you!!!!!" and my personal favorite:

We spent the weekend out at The Ranch (AKA, Granny & Pop's). Fall is definitely my favorite time of year out there. It was great to let the kiddos play outdoors and I even got to go off exploring on my own (even if I worried my husband a little...sorry, babe). I was fortunate to have another opportunity to photograph a dear friend and her beautiful girls this evening. The session was amazing and when they brought out these wonderful scarves at sunset, I flipped out. Can't get over the intense and lovely looks of these ladies.

Believe me, this is probably the toughest part to figure out when you're preparing for your photo session.

So, inspired by a wonderful idea on http://www.gap.com/, here are some pointers and a list of places to help you pick out the perfect attire for your holiday or standard family photo sessions--{read: what I would really be excited to see you wearing at your holiday session}:

[Disclaimer...these are my personal opinions and tastes. Truly. Wear whatever makes you happy for your session. That is the most important thing. Buuuuuut...in case you did want some help, read on.]

1. Browse my galleries at http://www.pinkletoes.com/ and you won't see a lot of families wearing matching attire. Actually, come to think of it, you won't see any. Granted, there is a place for these kinds of photos, but when I'm trying to tell your family's story with my camera, I know there's so much more to you than khakis and a white dress shirt. You are individuals and should dress like the individuals you are. You are unique and beautiful and the greatest part is, when you're together in a single image, you *still* blend as a family.

2. I am all for unique! If your toddler has one of those "I do my own stunts" T-shirts and he does in fact, do his own stunts, let him wear it! I'm serious. Try putting it on over a button-down collared shirt and pairing that with a jean jacket and cords. How cute is that???

3. And then you can take off the "I do my own stunts" T-shirt and I'll get a picture of him in your favorite button-down collared shirt of his because it would make you happy.

4. I think moms should be beautiful. Moms should be elegant. Moms should stand out like the most beautiful flower in the family vase. I like moms in dresses and skirts or fashionable jeans and yes...heels.

5. I'm traditional. I think girls are too flippin' adorable in dresses/skirts, too. Fashionable, timeless, but not too frilly.

6. I love boys/men (one in the same;-)) in jackets and with the layered look. (Especially if it's on top of the "I do my own stunts" T-shirt.)

7. I love kids in bright colors and patterns. Yes, patterns. Polka dots, stripes, kid-like, cheerful, happy, fun, youthful.

8. I love maternity bellies in bright colors and patterns.

9. I love natural fabrics with lots of texture. I want to be able to feel that soft sweater just by looking at it in the picture.

10. Back to the matching family thing. While you don't want to necessarily match, you should be coordinated. Try to stick with similar or at least complimentary color tones. If mom is wearing pastel yellow, it's probably not a good idea to put dad in an olive green and red plaid shirt. But, I think it would look lovely to have mom in deep purple, dad in rust colors and denim, and baby girl in earthy browns for a fall/wintery look.

11. Along those lines, you probably want to keep the clothing in the same style. Meaning if mom is wearing an evening gown, we're going to have to cover up that "I do my own stunts" T-shirt with a tailored jacket. (FYI...I would LOVE to do a family session with mom in an evening gown. Any takers?)

12. Here are some of my favorite clothing lines for kids/families. Note: when I started buying the outfit instead of just the pieces, my kids started looking a whole lot more put together.

I've known this family for years now. She and I were pregnant with our first born at the same time and practically at the same time for our second kiddos. What a joy it has been to document their family as it as grown. I love this family. Hip, urban, eclectic, smart, fun, funny, energetic, and most of all, real in their love for one another. Thanks for a fun evening, guys! I am so lucky to have spent it with you!

...it's a farm." My 3-year-old corrected me upon our return trip from the Austin Zoo. "A zoo has elephants and giraffes." Thinking back on what we saw, the kid has a point. He's so danged exact. But it was fun, regardless. The above image just cracked me up. I swear, I have seen *people* do this exact thing!

Peacocks make it more zoo-like, right?

My littlest was getting dang tired by this point. He's like, "Okay. I fed the sheep. *Now* can we go eat ice cream?????"

I love getting to capture his excitement on camera.

My own personal excitement. You can even see the butterfly's tongue.

This made me giggle. But then I felt kinda sad for the little guy.

T's FAVORITE farm "animal." He's taking it's picture.

Now he's taking my picture. We'll have to take some time to work on form, but it's a great start!

This month marks the one year anniversary of Pinkle Toes Photography. I can't believe how many miles I've put on these shoes and my cameras. I can't believe how many wonderful people I've met. I can't believe the newborn miracles I've witnessed, the fun stolen kisses between couples, the warm embraces among family members, and the sparkling smiles from children discovering the simple pleasure of dancing barefoot in the grass. I can't believe I get to live a dream every day and record memories that will last forever. Thank you for everything! I am so blessed to have been touched by you.
